american music after the year 2004 has just been disgraceful in my opinion. if you want to be known as 'not mainstream' (although almost every high school age kid listens to bands like 'the devil wears prada', yeah they're considered "not mainstream")you have to be basically in the 'core' genre. i can't remember how long it's been since somebody said how awesome a band like The Jesus and Mary Chain is, usually when i talk to someone who thinks they have a decent music taste, they can only name post-hardcore bands like Bring me The Horizon, yet when you ask them their opinion The Sex Pistols, they'll say "who the hell are they?" when you get somebody over the age of 20 who listens to crap like BMTH, then it's really insulting, and it's insulting because you'd hope that by the time you get out of high school, you have your own opinions, not opinions that your friends gave you.
As a college freshmen at the age of 21, you'd be surprised how little people change from highschool. the other day a student in one of my classes said something unbearably immature and all i could do was shake my head and continue reading....and i really forgot where i was going with this blogpost.
